Reading Dilemma

What do you do when your teenage god child (age 16) I’ll call her “Princess Diva” wants to read older books? And by older I mean should be 18 and up to read them. Borderline erotic, street and urban lit books. The typical “YA” books she doesn’t like or says she can’t get into.

Princess Diva has a pretty good head on her shoulders. Her mother is doing an awesome job raising 2 teenagers and a preteen in today’s society and economically tough times. She’s smart, popular and doesn’t follow the crowd. She’s the trend setter.

This is the first real interest in reading she’s shown. She actually asked for books to read. And this is reading for pleasure not as a requirment for school. I’m happy Princess Diva’s shown an interest in reading. I mean she knows reality from fantasy, has no self esteem issues and isn’t afraid to speak her mind. A really good kid, beside the usual teenage agnst, problems and issues.

So do you say no? Or do you let her pursue her new reading passion leaving it open for questions or conversations if they should arise?
